Best (and worst) Thanksgiving side dishes

To get into the holiday spirit, we did a bit of research on the most popular Thanksgiving side dishes (and least popular!) Unsurprisingly, there were a LOT of opinions flying around Google, but we did our best to give fair rankings to these tasty meals - and now we’re way too excited for the Turkey Day festivities in a few weeks! Check out the best and worst side dishes below.

Best Thanksgiving Side Dishes

#3 - Macaroni + Cheese

This might not be a staple on every Thanksgiving table, but we really believe that it should be with the overwhelming opinion of the deliciousness of Mac + Cheese.

#2 - Stuffing

We have to be honest, we were a bit surprised to see this in the majority of top side dish lists! Nevertheless, stuffing can be delicious when done right. Plus, who eats stuffing besides on Thanksgiving? The hot commodity plays a factor, we’re sure.

And the best Thanksgiving side dish in America is…. * drum roll *

#1 - Mashed Potatoes

We have an inkling you may have been able to guess this one! Who can resist creamy, buttery, delicious potatoes paired with all of the other amazing side dishes available on this food-first holiday! We know we cannot resist.

Worst Thanksgiving side dishes

#3 - Cranberry Sauce

We have to say, there was WAY more debate over this side dish than we anticipated. It is adored by those in the Northeast + the Southwest, but there is an overwhelming distaste everywhere else. We went with our midwest roots on this ranking.

#2 - Green Bean Casserole

Truthfully, we love this dish more than most side dishes, but we had to report the numbers. It was a shock to see this on multiple “worst” lists! Are these people crazy?! Nevertheless, GBC finds itself very near the bottom of the list.

And the (subjectively) worst Thanksgiving side dish is…. * drum roll *

#1 - Candied Yams

We can’t say we disagree with the nation’s opinion on this one. In comparison to all of the other delicious side dish options we have sitting on a Thanksgiving table, we can safely say candied yams might be one of the few things packed up for “leftovers” year after year. Sorry yams, maybe next time.
